Jeffrey Anderson - Sprinkler Fitter Success Story
Jeffrey Anderson spent six years in the Marine Corps and served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In September of 2003, one month after his discharge, Jeffrey registered with Helmets to Hardhats, and within a month he was called to interview for a Sprinkler Fitter apprentice position with Fire Protection Contractors of Anchorage. " I started work right away, and I've been working steady since then," said Jeffrey. He's mostly worked in the Mat Su Valley and Anchorage, but has also worked on projects in Juneau and Fairbanks.
" I always knew I wanted to learn a trade and work with my hands rather than sit in an office, and that's just what I'm doing. I'm really enjoying the work, and the pay and our medical and retirement benefits are great."
"Jeff is exactly the kind of employee we're looking for," says Mike Woolsey of Fire Protection Contractors. "He's very responsible and reliable, always here on time and ready to work."
Jeffrey has spent most of his apprenticeship with Fire Protection Contractors, but has worked for other union contractors in the area. "That's one of the advantages of a union apprenticeship - if work slows down a little for one contractor you can go to work for another and continue your progress toward journeyman," said Jeffrey.
"I'm telling guys I served with who are getting out now to register with Helmets to Hardhats - it really worked for me." [MORE]
